The next morning we boarded the ship and began our 5 day adventure. Of course we started off by eating some food. What else would you do on a cruise? We then found our room, unpacked our bags, and got ready for dinner. The next day at sea was fairly uneventful and relaxing. That evening was "formal" night for dinner (which for Carnival isn't that formal). Afterwards we tried our luck at the casino and I vowed not to go back until the last night. The 3rd day was spent in Progreso, Mexico. This was the same cruise we took last year so I knew not to expect too much from this stop. We got off and went to the beach for a bit, but the dead fish smell was a little nauseating so we made our way back to the ship.
I was so glad we went back to the ship because we had a great time! We went to the top deck and let the kids play in the water slide area since the weather was nice. All the kids had so much fun sliding down the slides. Bryden wouldn't go down the "big" slide, but he finally warmed up to it the next day. The 4th day we went to Cozumel. I think pretty much everyone went to the same beach, which was kind of nice. Surprisingly, there wasn't any family drama on this trip (well that I know of). The beach was awesome. The kids, of course, had a great time playing in the ocean and we had a good time soaking in the sun and indulging in a few Mexican cervezas. My sister and Alex road on some jet skis. The beach we went to also had a pool that we lounged around before we left. I think Aeson would have preferred to be at the pool the entire time. He was NOT a fan of the sand this year. Although I don't blame him I hope it is a phase. That could really put a crimp in the beach wedding idea. Before we boarded the ship my sister had to go to this one bar because it was a "tradition" to get a margarita from there. She warned everyone that they were strong but soon a couple of family members began acting a little loopy. I am glad I opted to not partake in the margarita drinking.... We then headed back to the ship.
Dinner that night was a little slow. I think we were all exhausted. We wound up going to bed super early that night. The 5th day on the cruise was TERRIBLE. It was also my birthday. I woke up in the middle of night to strange noises and the boat rocking like crazy. I tried to sleep, but I was way to paranoid. The morning finally came and the rocking never ceased. I was so sick. I have never been seasick until that day and it was awful. I threw up most of the morning and even little Aeson threw up (all over me). Alex felt a little under the weather as well. Bryden was the only one that didn't mind it and had a great time at Camp Carnival. I never left the room, but Alex told me there was "vomit bags" taped in the elevators because of the rocking. Apparently a lot of people were "green" that day. I felt a little better that evening and attempted dinner, but left before my birthday dessert because my kids were acting crazy. I tried to go to the casino with Alex and my sister for a bit, but quickly lost and gave up. My sister and Alex were determined to "not be defeated" by the casino, but I'm pretty sure they were. I went to watch the karaoke singers for a bit with a large chunk of the family and would have had a great time if it weren't for being sick all day. Plus I had a cold coming on. The next day the boat arrived at back at Galveston. I began to notice a very strange rash on one of my legs. Apparently I got it in Mexico, but I am still unsure what it is. Limes and sun can cause a strange skin reaction FYI. So to sum it all up we had a fairly good time with my large family but it was quickly put to a halt with the seasickness and strange rash.
Once we got to Galveston we drove to Houston and hopped on a plane to New York to scout out wedding venues. I think I will save that for a different post since I am still trying to recover from the trip.
